Phillip Island is more famous as the home to MotoGP, V8 Supercars and penguin colonies. But hidden east of the circuit is Kitty Miller Bay. In a secluded spot at the base of a non-active volcano, it’s a great place to sit and chill out. Swimming is not always advised though with strong rips and shark sightings.

So near yet so far. Store Beach is a short paddle from the famous Manly Beach. That’s right, a paddle you can’t get here any other way than by boat. Kayaks are easily rentable and it is worth it. You will have the beach almost all to yourself and may even be joined by a penguin every now and then.
While Balmoral and Manly Beaches play the starring role on the lower north shore of Sydney, Sirius Cove Reserve is well worth a visit, especially for those with young families. There are plenty of facilities including a play area, and parking is a lot easier than most other beaches in the area.
Bring suncream, there’s minimal shade
Tucked away behind the multi-million dollar mansions of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs is Kutti Beach, a minor player in the shadow of the big league that includes Watsons Bay and Shark Bay. You need to follow a small path down from the street but it is worth it for the views and the relative peace.

Parking isn't
obvious,
be patient!
Cow Bay,
Over 100km north of Cairns on the way up to Cooktown is Cow Bay, a small village with a very relaxed atmosphere, and a wonderful, long beach at the end of Buchanan Rd with a view to die for. Be careful though, jellyfish operate in the area. Luckily there are vinegar taps along the beach!
Jellyfish sting? Vinegar will neutralise it!
You have to really want an isolated beach to consider Bremer Island, about an hour flight from Darwin at the very top of Australia. There are camping areas for you to utilise and generally speaking you will have the island almost all to yourself, aside from a turtle or two, depending on the season.
Pack well,
you're isolated here!
A 45 minute drive from Esperance but over 750 kilometres from Perth, Lucky Bay is part of the Cape Le Grand National Park. Crisp, white sand and crystal water feature in this national park that is also home to kangaroos and the occasional hive of bees. Campsites are available.
Admire the bee hives but don’t get too close
Stay in Port
Lincoln, just
9.5km away!
A short drive south of Port Lincoln but around 650km from Adelaide is Memory Cove, with its amazing but small beach (around 200 metres long) accessible only by 4WD. Campsites are available, which is a good thing, as you will be in no rush to get back to the city.
Phillip Island Nature Park is directly behind the beach
There isn’t much that isn’t beautiful in Tasmania, and there is a lot to explore. Nestled between George Town and Devonport (roughly 45 minutes by car), somewhat close to Beaconsfield, made famous for the tragic mine collapse, is Bakers Beach. A long stretch of pristine sand and very few people in sight.
Part of the
Narawntapu
National Park
One of the various names for a very long stretch of beach, you will wonder how you ever missed it. It is around 15km of perfect white sand and relatively calm waves. You may have to share the beach with others, but there is so much of it that it’s not hard. South of Noosa, it plays second fiddle to its tourist hot spot big brother.
