music of the great depression people during the great depression enjoyed many forms of music, even if it was done inexpensively the music ranged in emotion from despair to exuberance, coming from a very different america than today this is woody guthrie, a folk musician who became popular during the depression as a young man a new style of jazz music, "big band swing" emerged during the depression
for listeners, this exciting music made the great depression more bearable the blues and its expressions of heartache and desperation became more popular during the depression the blues were often closely tied with jazz I don't know what the American Dream is anymore
