Figurative Language
Thank you & Sara
Personification
Personification-Personification is when you make an object or idea do something only a human can do.

Idiom
Idiom-An expression whose meaning is not predictable from the usual meanings of the actual words.
Metaphors
Metaphors-The metaphor states a fact or draws a verbal picture by the use of comparison.

"Nothing's going to hurt you the way the words do,
when they settle 'neath your skin
The objects that are being personified are the words. The words can't actually settle in your skin (promise, you won't see that on an x-ray:)). What she means is that they can get to your head and hurt even though it's just something somebody said.
"and let the words fall out"
What's being personified in this are the words once again. Words can't actually fall out. What she meant is that the people need to speak up and say something.
"Show me how big your brave is"
The object being personified in this is the person's bravery. You can't actually say my bravery is 5 ft long. She's saying to show her how brave you can be.
"You can turn a phrase into a weapon/or a drug."
1.) What she's trying to say here is that you can turn a phrase into something that can hurt like a weapon.
2.) You can also turn that phrase around so that it make it makes someone feel better or heals someone like a drug.

"Maybe there's a way out of the cage where you live."
So hopefully the person doesn't live in a cage like a bird. What Sara means is that the person is hiding in a "cage," or in clearer terms, the person is hiding herself and her feelings.
"Bow down to the mighty."
What Sara means in this is that people are giving in to somebody who is stronger.
"Stop holding your tongue."
She isn't really holding her tongue in this lyric. What she means is that the person isn't speaking up and telling what she feels.
Alliteration
Alliteration- The use of words that begin with the same sound near one another.
"With what you want to say"
The alliteration in this is with, what, and want, all starting with w.
"Fallen for the fear"
The alliteration in this is fallen, for, and fear, all starting with f.
Birthday- December 7, 1979
Birthplace- California
Height- 5' 5"
Sara's song, "Love Song," became a hit and started out her career.

About Brave
About Brave
The song was written by Sara, but was also co-written by guitarist Jack Antonoff. The song was inspired to help people to come out and be themselves. The song has many figurative language examples in it but the 4 main ones we will be focusing on today are Personification, Alliteration, Idioms, & Metaphors.
You can be amazing
You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug
You can be the outcast
Or be the backlash of somebody’s lack of love
Or you can start speaking up
Nothing’s gonna hurt you the way that words do
When they settle ‘neath your skin
Kept on the inside and no sunlight
Sometimes a shadow wins
But I wonder what would happen if you
Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I wanna see you be brave
Everybody’s been there,
Everybody’s been stared down by the enemy
Fallen for the fear
And done some disappearing,
Bow down to the mighty
Don’t run, stop holding your tongue
Maybe there’s a way out of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days you can let the light in
Show me how big your brave is
Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
And since your history of silence
Won’t do you any good,
Did you think it would?
Let your words be anything but empty
Why don’t you tell them the truth?
Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
See you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
