Transcript of The Renaissance
The Renaissance took place approximately between the years of 1400 AD- 1750 AD. During that time period, there were many achievements in art, literature, and science. Also during this time, scientists were able to observe the natural environment. Galileo and Leonardo da Vinci both lived during this time period.
One invention from the Renaissance was the lens. This included the Microscope and the Telescope. The lens assisted in doing work because people were able to get a clear image of items as well as make advances in medicine and hygiene. Previously, people were not able to get a close up view of space or see miniature details.
The social impact of the telescope was that controversy arose between people who believed that the sun orbited around the planets and the people who believed the planets orbited around the sun. With the invention of the lens, people were able to study space and study to make advancements in medicine.
The political impact the telescope was that when Galileo said that the planets revolved around the sun, a great controversy grew because that is not what the people believed. Since Galileo was able to improve it, we still use his concept today.
The thermometer assisted in completing work by informing people how hot or cold something was, or how hot or cold the weather was that day. It was originally called the thermoscope. The thermoscope was improved on by Galileo and others, because they included a numerical scale. It was then called the Thermometer and it was the first working air thermometer. Before, people could not tell exactly how hot or cold it was, so they just walked outside and said it was dry, cold, "fire dry," or hot. If the doctor thought someone felt warm, he told them they had "fever heat"
The cultural impact of the telescope was that when Hans Lippershey invented the telescope, it was a huge achievement. People over the world started to use them, and astronomers are still using them today.
Galileo was born in 1564 and was a physicist, an astronomer, and a philosopher. He was the first person to use a telescope to look into the sky. When he looked into the sky he discovered that the planets orbit around the sun, not vice-versa. The original inventor of the Telescope was Hans Lippershay, but Galileo made improvements to it.
The economical impact the telescope was that when the lenses were invented, they created jobs because people were then able to study space and make advancements to medicine/hygiene.
The social impact the thermometer had was that people were able to be sure if they had a fever, since the doctor could tell what temperature their body was. Then they would know if they needed medicine or not.
The cultural impact the thermometer had was that even though the thermometer was not invented in America, we still use them today. Thermometers are used very often to determine one way if someone is sick or not.
There really was not a law that had to do with Thermometers then, but now some places have laws that say if it is extremely hot or extremely cold, people should not be outside.
The economic impact the thermometer had was that a lot of people buy thermometers for their houses still, so when thermometers went on sale, they made an impact on economy.
