Transcript of Take Five

Written in an unusual 5/4 meter. It was one of the first Jazz songs with a time signature other than the standard 4/4 beat or 3/4 waltz time.

The main theme played by the Alto. Comes at the start and end of the piece.

An incomplete bar or phrase. A pick-up or an lead in. Here the anacrusis is played by the Alto into the main theme.
Anacrusis.
The b3, b5 and b7 of a blues scale

Details.
Performance practices in drums and saxophone.
Sax:
-Smears which slide between two notes to join, and give it a "Jazzy feel".
-Syncopation which is making the rhythm fall on normally unaccented beats.
Drums:
-Drums the rim of the drum to create a tinny, non-echoing sound, to add to the feel of Jazz in the piece.
