Transcript of Brave New World-Destruction of a Family

By: Alex Brunk, Mariah Hughes, Megan Azzarello Brave New World Thomas Robert Malthus Aldous Huxley Brave New World Linking Brave New World
and today's society? Malthus studied math and philosophy Thomas Robert Malthus opposed population growth that would outstrip, or surpass, the food supply. Lenina had to wear a Malthusian belt because in this brave new world they were not allowed to have their own children. http://www.cleanvideosearch.com/media/action/yt/watch?videoId=3YBp-lYDfPs&name=Malthus+Theory+Animation&uploadUsername=kirkygirl16&hitCount=1988 "Outliving one's beauty outward
with a mind that doth renew
swifter than blood decays"
Troilus and Cressida A Malthusian belt would limit the growth of population because it is a contraceptive we would use today. "Again, John repeats Troilus's words, but this time to make a case for marriage. When two people really love each other, they can be together for all of life, even old age, because the love in their minds outlives the decay of physical beauty. Of course, this is meaningless in the new world, where there's no such thing as old age anyway." When Lenina and Bernard go to the reservation here is when Lenina sees a mother for the first time and is terrified of the sight of her breast feeding. http://www.cleanvideosearch.com/media/action/yt/watch?videoId=ysd8VvJTDEk&name=Troilus+and+Cressida+Act+3+Scene+2&uploadUsername=mudgeded&hitCount=701 On page 151 when John the Savage meets the director for the first time he says, "My Father!"

In Brave New World "father" is smut. In Brave New World the bond of marriage between men and women is nonexistent. By breaking traditional family values a government could control and pacify, or calm , the population better. What does that mean for today's society? In today's society traditional family values are being destroyed. This is happening for many reasons.
We are all being influenced by the government which keeps growing in power and strength.
We have a no-fault divorce so when couples want a divorce for no reason but to get out of marriage Ironically "mother" and "father" are smut words when today smut refers to pictures or words related to sex. When in this new society people are encouraged to have sex because "everyone belongs to everyone." 1930s
People stuck out the hard times during the Great Depression rather than risk their finances. Divorce Rates 2012:
People sometimes get a divorce for no reason except to get out of the marriage. The name of the Malthusian belt comes from Thomas Robert Malthus who believed in limiting population. Huxley used this belt to limit the population in this Brave New World http://www.cleanvideosearch.com/media/action/yt/watch?videoId=BOR9J969ejY Today There is still destruction of the family today. Some ways would be:
Drug/Alcohol addiction
Divorce
Cheating
Too much time spent at work?????????????
abortion
Many people face temptations and they have to choose what is tempting them or their family. Sadly the destruction of family is not thought about when one chooses and what is tempting them is their final choice. Works Cited "Brave New World Allusions & Cultural References."
