In this prezi presentation, we will be discussing the importance for a business organisation to have a organsational structure.

The two companies that we decided to look at thier organisational structure are Apple and Google.

Key terms:

Organisation- A group of people who have purpose for example in a business environment or in the government department.

Span of control- A number of employees that a supervisor or manger or any above can directly control.

Flat structure- An organisation that has fewer level of control between the management.

Tall structure- An organisation with a longer chain of command meaning more span of control

Matrix structure- an organisational structure that priorities the flow of skills and information

Finance- This part of the business keeps the records of any financial activity.

Marketing- They are responsible for identifying or anticipating customer requirements by using market research or using the 4Ps.

Sales- This function is responsible for customers buying what the business produces.

Production- Responsible for who makes the products and how and when they are made.

Flat structure pros and cons
Pros:
less costs due to fewer managers, fewer levels of management and more suitable for standard activities .
Cons:
Not suitable for complex activities, quality of performance is poor, discipline is low as fewer managers or supervisors.
Pros:
Clear management structure, narrow span of control, clear understanding of progession and promotion.
Cons:
More strict on freedom, comunication problems as more levels of control.
Types of structures- Matrix
Pros:
Exchanging information is much more easier, better customer service due to better communication.

Cons:
Expensive to maintain, understanding the system is very hard to understand.
Organisation Style
Introduction
In P4 we will be discussing about how does this structure help the company to achieve its aims?

We will be using Apple and Google as our examples.
Key Terms:
Strategic Planning - is the planning for the whole organisation such as setting out its aims.
Mission Statement - setting out the purpose of the organisation so the main purpose of the organisation can be deliver to all stakeholders.


Benefits And Purpose
Benefits of having an organisational structure:

Improves of decision making
improves employees performance
Focuses on customer service
Purposes of having an organisational structure:

Helps build and design an organisational structure for a business so they can meet business objectives.
Enhances the coordination of the organisation .
It divides the functions of a company for example enterprise or department.
Four Functional Areas:
Finance
- This part of the business keeps the records of any financial activity.

Marketing
- They are responsible for identifying or anticipating customer requirements by using market research or using the 4Ps.

Sales
- This function is responsible for customers buying what the business produces.

Production
- Responsible for who makes the products and how and when they are made.

Strategic Planning
Goals:
To provide the best and upgraded products
To maintain investor support
To ensure that the company has a long-run profitability, production and service
Summary
Overall, there are both advantages and disadvantages to having an organisational structure for any type of business whether a small company or a large company depending on their preference.

Apple and Google has different goals as they both work under different fields for example Apple works mainly on its products such as the iPhone while Google works on its search engine.

To expand the production rate and have high demand of the products.

Goals:
An improved infrastructure to make their engineers more productives.
Google wants to be the best in search
Google tries to make sure their tools are running everywhere

Objectives:
Deliver new advertising technology, develop tracking mechanisms, and enable users to search a larger base of information.
Expand further into international markets, and continue developing new products.

How this structure relates to the company's aims?
Apple's structure was always a company with one guy making all the calls. This made product decisions easier.



Google's tall structure makes it easy for the employees to communicate within their groups and their seniors. This makes it easy for decisions making.

Functional areas of Apple
SMART Targets
Human resources- This department is responsible for application processing for hiring qualified people.
Apple wants the best to work at their business to make brand new products that are not on the market that cunsumers can buy.
Specific = To set a specific targets
Measurable = Qualify its performance
Achievable = Can business achieve its aims?
Realistic = Set goals that can be achieved
Time-related = Objectives must be related to a timescale
Style of Organisation
Sales and marketing- This department is responsible for making sure that the products the company makes is sold to potential customers.
Google organisational structure

Apple organisational structue
Functional area - an organisation's reporting relationships are grouped based on specialty such as Marketing and Accounting (Advantage = employees have the oppotunity to move up within their functional areas, Disadvantage = As the company grows larger, the functional areas can become difficult to manage due to their size).

Geographical - representatives from each functional department into units formed to serve a specific market or region (Advantage = having leaders who are completely familiar with the local business environment, Disadvantage = There may be conflict and competition between different areas).

Product - A product can be a service or an item such as google's search engine and iphones (Advantage = company gains reputation from their products, Disadvantage = some products were banned in some country such as Apple's products were banned in Russia since 01/01/2015).
Type of customers - different type of customers in different area (Advantage = sells to customers in different areas such as government, large business and small business, Disadvantage = cannot satisfy every type of customers as they have different needs).



Customer service- This department is responsible for providing the best service possible to attract new customers or purchase another product from their company.
Apple provides high quality products that the materials Apple uses are to a high standard that will beat an other manufacture such as Samsung
Apple wants to provide the best service even after the customer has bought the product such online service assistance.
Funtional areas of Google
Google not only wants the best people for the job but also the right people to work their for example whether they can work in a professional manner

Google wants to know what customers want and bring it to the market for example project ara is their new product that they hope will appeal to every body.
