Franklin Delano Roosevelt Franklin Delano Roosevelt is born in Hyde Park, New York on January 30, 1882 1900- moves to Cambridge, Massachusetts to attend Harvard 1905- He moves to New York City, marries Eleanor Roosevelt, and enters Columbia Law School November 8, 1910- He is elected to New York State Senate 1913- He is appointed Assistant Secretary of the Navy by Woodrow Wilson 1920- He runs as Democratic Vice-President alongside James M. Cox but is not elected 1921- He contracts Polio after swimming in Maine November 6, 1928- He is elected governor of New York November 8, 1932- He wins the election against Herbert Hoover to become the 32nd president 1933- Franklin D. Roosevelt provides immediate relief for the citizens of the U.S. from the depression in the first “New Deal” November 3, 1936- F.D.R. defeats Alfred Landon by a landslide of votes to win his second election March 11, 1940- He passes the Lend-Lease policy which allows the U.S. to help allied forces without entering the war November 5, 1940- F.D.R. is elected to his third term promising America that he will not send U.S. troops into world war 2 December 7, 1941- Japan bombs Pearl Harbor and the F.D.R. declares war on Germany, Italy, and Japan November 7, 1944- He is elected to his fourth term as president with 53.4% of the total votes February 11,1945- He meets with Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin to talk about the future of Europe after World War 2 April 12, 1945- F.D.R. dies of a severe cerebral hemorrhage in Warm Springs, Georgia and leaves Harry Truman in office as president to attend to World War 2
