When saying through, along, by, or in the area of use por.

Ejemplo: I run through the sea

Yo corro por el mar.
Use por when expressing a length of time.

Ejemplo: Yo leo por dos horas.
Use por for multiplication and division.

Ejemplo: six times one equals six,
seis por uno son seis
Use Por when talking about transportation or communication

Ejemplo: I like the train

Me gusta el tren.
Para is used to show the purpose of an object or thing.

Ejemplo: The dress is for a party.

El vestido es para una fiesta.
Para is used to express an action that will soon be completed

Ejemplo: The boat is about to leave:
El barco está para salir.

Para is also used to indicate destination.

Ejemplo: The man left for Texas:
El hombre salió para Texas.
Para is used to indicate a recipient.
Ejemplo: That apple is for you: Esa manzana es para ti.
Lastly Para is used to express a deadline or specific time.

Ejemplo: I need the dog by monday. Yo necesito el perro para el lunes.
Por is used for gratitiude or apology
Ejemplo: I am sorry for breaking the pencil.
Lo siento por romper el lápiz.
