His other works besides Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children include The Sherlock Holmes Handbook which was released in 2009 in conjunction with the Sherlock Holmes movie starring Robert Downey Jr.
Riggs' Other Works
His book, Talking Pictures, was release in 2012 featuring old photographs similar to those found in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. A sequel to Miss Peregrine’s is set to be released in January 2014, Hollow City.
In the Classroom
This book would be a great text to use with 5th to 9th grade students. Jacob, feels very different from his peers, which is something many students can relate to.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a novel about 16 year old, Jacob. Jacob often feels like an outsider among his peers and even among his own family, except for his grandfather. His grandfather’s sudden death sends him on a journey to decipher old photographs of strange children that his grandfather had told him stories about as a child. This book is a haunting and entrancing thrill ride with surprises around every corner.
Ransom Riggs
He was born in Maryland on a 200 year old farm. Riggs grew up in Florida and attended Kenyon College and the University of Southern California to study English and film. The author got his professional start blogging for the magazine, Mental Floss.

Have older students use cameras and photo editing software to create their own peculiar children.
Photo essays to recreate the story.
Use this book to inspire the sharing of family stories.
