An online community of people with a common interest, who use a website to communicate with each other and share information.

Allows users to communicate with each other instantly by:
following each others accounts
commenting on each others profiles
sending private messages and pictures
'liking' each others pictures and re-posting them

the increase of human online interaction
the decrease of face-to-face communication

Increase of social networking cyberbullying

Social network can be good helps socially inept people socialize and communicate a lot faster and easier

How Does The Social Network Effect Our Lives?
How many social networking sites do you use?
How many hours do you spend online?
Teens:
spend around 3 hours online. Two hours of this time is spend on social networks.
25% of teens contact each other through social networks.


Negative effects:
increases antisocial behavior,addiction and selfish behavior

Positive effects:
helps depression and showing virtual empathy
Negative effect:
increases health problems; obesity

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, MySpace, Tumblr, Linked-In, YouTube, Ask.fm, etc...
Social networks are used to fulfill a variety of needs:
Affiliation
Self-expression
Self-presentation
Due to these needs being fulfilled it can create a positive effect on how people feel about themselves.

Negative Effects:
Overuse can lead to health problems
Distraction from job, school or general life
Antisocial behaviors
Narcissistic tendencies

Previously his would have been unacceptable but now people are becoming more comfortable.
