Ladies and gentlemen, good morning.
In the European area, the FriXion family continues to perform well and contributes greatly to the overall sales. With the launch of FriXion Colors, we have entered the color pen market thus embarking on a new and great adventure.
Of course, standard products such as G2, V5/V7 or Acroball have also steadily contributed to sales.
Again, I want to express my appreciation for your efforts.

Thank you for the introduction. I am Hiromoto Watanabe of Pilot Corporation.

First I would like to extend my gratitude to all of you for your continued efforts to expand sales of our Pilot products.
Let me now inform you of changes in the organisation of the company.

As of March 30, 2017, I took the position of Chairman & Representative Director and Mr Shu Itoh succeeded me as President & Representative Director.
Already one year has passed since we met in Bucharest, Romania in April of 2016.
I am very pleased to see you again, all in good health.
While the world economy faced uncertainty in 2016, the Pilot group was able to achieve satisfactory results.
Overall sales of the Group totaled 98.4 billion yen, or 99.2% year-on-year.
Operating profit was 108.8% of the previous year. The figure for net sales was very impacted by fluctuations in the exchange rate.
Indeed sales decreased when expressed in yen, however a closer look shows a very satisfactory performance not only in the Japanese market but also in Europe, the Americas, and Asian regions.
Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Alice and all the staff from Matalon company, as well as PCE members who all made this event possible.

Thank you for your attention.
I am convinced that this two-day meeting will greatly contribute to the future business of all the attendees.
We appreciate your active participation in the conference.
As members of the Pilot group, let’s all make this an opportunity to reinforce our bonds.
We must continue to join forces, to design and launch market-driven products thanks to our top-level sales force.
Keeping a challenging spirit in all times, we will be able to maintain and expand our position as the world’s top brand.

Next year in 2018, we will celebrate the centenary of our foundation.
This 100th anniversary is a passage in our journey.
It is not a goal that ends; we must continue to compete and win after this turning point.
For this, product strategies that answer local market needs, combined with a consistent and unified brand strategy will be critically important.
Ballpoint and permanent markers are both crowded and difficult markets, but I still would like to encourage you to drive the sales of our new oil-based Pilot products in your respective countries, by emphasising their highest quality and excellent cost performance.
Succeeding in these priority areas will allow us to get closer to our objective of becoming world no.1 writing instruments manufacturer in customer satisfaction.
This mid-term plan is taking shape with the SuperGripG and the new permanent marker SCA-100/400 that were introduced during last year’s PEM.
The BP-1, made for developing markets, is also part of the priority products that make up this worldwide strategy.
Now, we know that oil-based ballpoint pens and permanent markers are the 2 biggest markets in the world.
Unfortunately, in these two areas we have not yet achieved the results we want.
I mentioned it last year: in PILOT's three-year midterm plan that started from 2016, the main keyword is “oil-based”.
Needless to say, Pilot is the top manufacturer in this specialty.
I am confident that our highest quality, highest added-value, our wide range and powerful go-to-market strategy will allow us to differentiate from competitors, keep our lead and grow our shares.
It is especially the case in Europe, where many new players have been launching their me-too FriXion products.
In the fall of 2016, BIC has also entered this market. In Japan, Mitsubishi UNI launched its retractable type early this year.
Many competitors are entering this market, but we should not worry.
Despite these uncertainties, the world market for thermosensitive products has expanded over the past years.
Now within our industry, previously unseen changes in the structure of the distribution are redefining long-established norms; Office depot, Staples, mass market players are restructuring, e-commerce is growing at a faster pace each year.
With a new president in the United States, the presidential election in France, general elections in Germany, it is difficult to predict how the political factor in 2017 will impact our economy.
With this change of president, I will pass the baton to the next generation to pursue our core strategy of becoming the world’s No.1 writing instruments’ manufacturer in consumer satisfaction.
The new president will say a few words later on.
Here we are this year in Athens, Greece.
As last time, I am pleased to see representatives gathering from all European countries and North Africa as well as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, to hold and enjoy this great European meeting.
