Heavy metal music sprouted mostly in the mid to late
1960's. Some influences in the beginning of that decade. Metal continued throughout all the 1970's, 80's, 90's & the 20th century. The genre is still popular to this day.
Deep Purple, formed in 1967.
1965-1969.
Some of the first famous metal bands/artists were Deep Purple, The Scorpions, Jimi Hendrix all from 1965-67.
The more influential members of metal, came in '68 like, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath & Alice Cooper. Later on Judas Priest, ZZ Top, Blackfoot & Slade were born.
THE BEGINNING OF IT ALL.
the Jimi Hendrix Experience formed.
As metal evolved and became more popular, we seen like likes of Aerosmith, Blue Oyster Cult,Twisted Sister, AC/DC, KISS, Van Halen, The Ramones, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Quiet Riot. Def Leopard.

Whom all are still known today.
*
THE BIG ONE.
Ozzy Osbourne kicked off the 1980's, soon following him was METALLICA, Slayer, Sucidal Tendencies, Motley Crue & Anthrax, amoung Pantera, Megadeth & Soundgarden.
Guns N' Roses debuted along with Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Marilyn Manson to close of the 80's.
EVEN BIGGER ONE.
Pearl Jam & Tool started off in 1990 bringing along with them; Rage Against the Machine, Korn, Godsmack, Skipknot, System of a Down, Trapt, Buckcherry, Disturbed, & Avenged Sevenfold.
THE NEW WAVE.
THE GAME CHANGER.
From 2000 til today, metal has taken a drastic change, some like it, some don't. Metal triggered so many new sub genres expanding the genre in the 90's & 2000's, like..
Sub Genres.
Death Metal,
Black Metal,
Gothic Metal,
Grunge,
Thrash Metal,
Speed Metal.
We started to see lots of new young bands, like Black Veil brides, Bring Me the Horizon, Suicide Silence & Five Finger Death Punch.
The Look.
The Sound.
The typical metal band consists of the following instruments...
Some techniques in metal music include; Cymbal Choking, Distortion & Sreaming.
Distortion was originally created by a stupid idea from Link Ray, this then led on to ways of playing & actual equipment specifically for distortion.
Cymbal Coking is when a cymbal is hit repeatedly but immediately silenced by grabbing it.
Screaming, is a vocal technique. It's very aggressive, but that's the point.
Before his death, Cliff Burton sparked the idea in the metal industry that the bass itself could be the lead instrument, changing the way bassists play forever. (1980's)
Glam Metal was created.
THE LOUDER THE BETTER.
By Megan Vardy
ST. ANGER - METALLICA.
CLIFF BURTON - BASS SOLO.
Metal performances are in my opinion the most outrageous, with the pyro, volume, mosh pit's & headbanging.
Alice Cooper, Slipknot & KISS, are infamous for their look, & stage performances.
KISS.
LONGHAIR, BLACK, STUDS, LEATHER.
Typical metal gear includes, anything leather, other band shirts, distressed jeans,
spike and studded out clothes.
Piercings and tattoo's are huge in metal.
