Transcript of Tumblr Presentation
What is tumblr?
Tumblr is an online site that was founded in February of 2007 by David Karp. Tumblr allows users to blog, post pictures, share texts, quotes, links, music, videos, and follow and communicate with other tumblr users.
You can access tumblr through almost any device, which means it can be easily accessed through your desktop, smart phone, laptop or email. Currently, there is over 100 million blogs and over 44 billion posts.
What exactly is a blog?
"Blog" is an abbreviated version of "weblog," which is a term used to describe web sites that maintain an ongoing chronicle of information.
A blog typically features anything from diary-type commentary, photos, videos, audio, and links to articles on other Web sites, usually presented as a list of entries in reverse chronological order (most recent entries appear first).
Blogs range from the personal to the political, and can focus on one narrow subject or a whole range of subjects.
The purpose of tumblr
Tumblr allows users to effortlessly share anything from text and quotes to music and videos. It is an extremely user friendly site that makes blogging easy.
It is an innovative way for people to search for topics they are interested in and also find other users who share their same interests.
Tumblr encourages a rich media mix that allows users to simply post photos, videos, songs, audio and text.
It is an excellent resource for people who want to create their own website but are unsure how to do so.
Tumblr can be viewed as a mix of all of the social media sites.
Like Twitter, it takes the old-fashioned medium of the blog and refreshes it with a new, centralized platform, and more interactivity.
Like Facebook, it's a face to your online personality, a scrap book of the Web-you.
Instead of having to upload files to YouTube or Flickr, or create your own WordPress database before posting things, you can put your media directly into tumblr from your computer or smart phone.
Tumblr combines the best features from other sites and places them in one easy to use website.
What makes tumblr unique?
Since tumblr is such a user-friendly site, anyone who wants a tumblr, can have a tumblr.
Tumblr can be thought of as an online diary so many people chose to use it to post items that interest them.
There are blogs that are dedicated to almost any topic that you can think of. Now matter what your interest may be, there is a tumblr blog for it.
Tumblr is especially useful for small business owners who want to be on the internet but may not know how to create a traditional web page.
Also, many larger companies such as Ann Taylor and Sephora use tumblr to promote their products to a wider audience base.
