A story of HOPE
When the rebels attack, the whole palace goes into lock down mode. There are under ground tunnels and passageways that can protect the royal family and the selected. There are 2 rebel groups, the northern and the southern rebels. When the southerners attack it is a big deal and there are typically many deaths the northerners however, do not do as much damage. Many of selected selected girls were frightened of the attack and decided to return home and eliminate themselves from the competition.
The selection is a country wide contest where 35 girls aged 16-20 fight for a chance to be princess of Illea. Prince Maxon picks off girls one by one until he finds the princess.
In the last chapter of the book, Prince Maxon crowns America as an "elite" contestant, this means that she is still in the running for becoming the princess, and she is top 6 in the competition. The reader is left wondering what happens next.
