Transcript of Tablets Replacing Textbooks

Many schools are now considering
replacing textbooks with electronic
tablets. Cons; -Too much time on tablets can cause eye-strain, headaches, blurred vision, and neck pain (just like any electronic weapon over time).

-Although the tablet itself is less expensive,
the hardware and wi-fi that goes along with it could end up costing more than the textbooks.

-There are too many distractions like apps and emails that go along with the tablet.

-Some people don't have access to wi-fi outside of school.

-Tablets could break easier and cost a lot of money to repair it.

-The battery life wouldn't last an entire school day (7 hours 26 minutes)

-People are more likely to steal the tablets then a text book. The U.S. Secretary of Education has stated
that she thinks every school should replace
textbooks with tablets over the next decade. -Tablets can hold thousands of
books and other materials needed
in the classroom eliminating the
physical strain of backpacks.

-The textbooks on tablets cost less then the print textbooks.

-Students have easier access to downloading books and it takes less time then going out and buying them.

_It's better for the environment because it
doesn't use paper.

_Economically better because students don't have to go school supply shopping.

_Helps students practice their technology skills. Leslie Cortes & Rachel Dowd However, the switch comes with many

completely paperless and get tablets for students
to do all of their work on. Some schools have already started to make the
switch. Students who used tablets did better on a standardized Algebra test, but students who used textbooks better understood the material. Do you think
tablets should be used instead of textbooks? What do you think that would mean for the future of our educational system?

Do you think it would be a good idea to make the switch at North?
