They can be found in schools.
They can be a gathering of like-minded people.
They can be a library of tools loaned out.
They can be a place to realize your dreams.
21st Century Skills
critical thinking and problem solving
creativity and innovation
communication and collaboration
scientific and numerical literacy
*Meet those pesky standards
Makerspaces can be:
on a cart,
in a room,
shared between multiple rooms.
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
Adding the R to STEAM, to make STREAM is one way that STEM classrooms are connecting with the Common Core. A focus on literacy is a big component of Literacy in Science and Technical Subjects.
In addition, Makerspaces provide opportunities to research, apply mathematics in a real world setting, and persevere through challenges. Makerspaces are collaborative environments where students work together to solve problems.
The jury is still out...
Support content teachers with compelling resources.
Fill underutilized spaces.
Level the playing field for low SES students.
Create opportunities for student driven learning.

A very large THANK YOU to:
OASL for the $1,000 Connie Hull Grant to help me pursue this project!
With the money I was able to purchase, three Arduino kits and all sorts of accessories and supplies for the space, and a new collection specifically geared towards MAKING things!
Also a big help!
