PATAU SYNDROME By: Alissa Walsh, Maria Jacob, Lyn zeichner, & Nicole Alvaerez Patau syndrome is also know as trisomy 13. Karyotype of a male with Trisomy 13.
We know that it is a male because the
sex chromosomes are XY, not XX like
a woman would have. TRI- means three.
SOM- as in chromoSOMe REASON:
Metaphase I SYMPTOMS:
physical & mental
A&B- cleft lip
C&D- cleft palate Spina bifida Polydactyly microcephaly TESTS AND EXAMS:
Gastrointestinal x rays
Ultrasound
MRI Scan
CT scan
TREATMENT:
- no legitamate cure
- surgeries Patau Symdome is not
inherited. STATISTICS:
82% of babies with Patau
syndrome will die within their
first month of life.
5-10% survive to one year.
1 in every 12,000 infants will
have trisomy 13.
In Virgina about 6 infants in a
year are born with trisomy 13.
