In this crash course, you’ll learn tips to help you get exceptional value from your mentoring relationship.

Recapping the advice your mentor has shared with
you shows them you value their input, organizes your action steps and reminds them of anything they may have committed to during the meeting.
VC Fred Wilson suggests entrepreneurs: "Solicit feedback. Listen to it. Write it down. But do not act on it immediately. It is advice not direction. You are the boss of your company."
All high-performers have coaches – they use them to make consistent incremental improvements to their performance. According to Keith Ferrazzi's author of "Who's Got Your Back", there are four mind-sets you should focus on in building relationships:
Defines the focus/purpose of your meeting
Outlines your goals and objectives
Keeps you on track
Clarifies the time and location
Great exercise to organize your priorities
PURPOSE OF AN AGENDA:
Being properly prepared helps us make a great impression. With all of the information the internet provides, you can learn a bit about your mentor before you actually meet. With a little extra digging, you can connect the dots and demonstrate to your mentor that they are important to you.

A well-crafted agenda sent a few days before the meeting shows your mentor that you mean business. It gives them confidence that you're prepared and allows them to think about what experience and connections they can share (they want to look good, too).
An evaluation of marketing efforts
Review current efforts and results
Planned future actions
Identify what to: start, stop and continue
What have been your breakthroughs (what worked)
What have been your breakdowns (what didn’t work)
What did you learn from the breakthroughs and breakdowns?
What do you need to change to achieve the results you want?
EXAMPLES OF AGENDA ITEMS:

Effective communication takes place, not when we present our message as
we intended, but when it is received as we intended. Everyone has a unique learning style and we can accomplish more with them when we speak to it.
"You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want."
Ask them how they would like you to structure your presentation (this is great practice for adapting to your customers' communication style).
Inquire how they prefer to communicate between meetings: email, text, phone.

of context or bullet points?
TIPS AND TRICKS TO CONSIDER:
At the completion of each meeting, give a two-minute recap of
your mentor’s advice
Acknowledge your mentor for the contribution they've made to your business.
Within 24 hours, send a recap email with the action you'll be taking. For an example recap email check out:

ALREADY HAVE A MENTOR?
Create a one-page profile of your mentor, including links to their key information
and notes on anything you'd like to ask them about.
Draft the agenda for your first (or next) mentor meeting. Try using CYBF's meeting agenda template.
Ask your mentor how they would like you to structure your communication to them.
The genuine interest in helping the other person without payment or trade.
A willingness to identify
and admit weaknesses.
Honesty at its truest level;
the willingness to call someone
on their excuses or false logic.
An openness to being held accountable,
and a willingness to hold the other accountable to their commitments.
Look your mentor up on LinkedIn and Google.
Read their blog and follow them on Twitter (some mentors will be more active/visible than others).
Make notes of their past experiences, awards, recommendations, and skills.
Look for their interests - associations and charities they are involved in.
See who they know. Do you know someone they know?
Email in advance requesting a bio and any information they think you should know about them.
Ask why they became a mentor.
Share what caught your attention, what you were impressed by or what you want to know more about related to their experience.
This shows you are interested in them and helps them understand what is interesting to you.
