Gandhi Interesting Facts 3 Little-known Interesting Facts His real name is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Prezi by: Heather Hornicek
C Block Book by: Amy Pastan Gandhi was born in Porbandar, India on October 2, 1869. Gandhi got assassinated by Hindu extremist Nathuram Godse. Gandhi died on January 30, 1948. Gandhi's father died when he was 16 in 1885 and his mother died in 1891. This is a video of the life of Mahatma Ghandi: Mahatma Gandhi was known for leading a non violent revolution against British occupation of India, that eventually drove the British out. The country that India was being ruled by was England (the British). He is famous for his hunger strikes, and his attempts to make amends between the Hindu majority and Muslim minority. Gandhi is also famous for his 'march to the sea' to make salt out of ocean water when the British passed an unfair tax on salt in India. He also weaved his own clothing to show self reliance. Quotes First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony. You must be the change you wish to see in the world. You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty. Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever. The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. Thank You
Watching! Gandhi was extremely punctual. One of his very few possessions was a dollar watch. Just before he was assassinated, on January 30, 1948, Gandhi was upset because he was ten minutes late getting to a regular prayer meeting. While in England in 1931, Gandhi made his first radio broadcast for the United States. The first thing the people of the United States heard Mahatma say was, “Do I have to speak into this thing?” He had a set of false teeth, which he carried in a fold of his loin cloth. He put them in his mouth only when he wanted to eat. After his meal, he took them out, washed them and put them back in his loin cloth again. Mahatma Gandhi spoke English with an Irish accent, for one of his first teachers was an Irishman. A good decision that Gandhi made was putting in his effort that gained India's independence from the British empire without using any violence. This was a good decision because while he was not using violence, he didn't hurt anyone or anything. One way he didn't use non violence was when he marched 241 miles barefoot from his village to the sea. Another way the Gandhi used non violence was when he had hunger strikes and when he made his own clothes instead of buying them. Life Lesson Gandhi's Grave Poor Decision A poor decision thet Gandhi made was, after India gained the independance he had an idea of keeping India's people living a certain way. He wanted them to live like they were in the 1500s. Gandhi wanted them to live a life with and around nature. When he had the idea of people living a simple life, Gandhi thought of them baket weaving, making their own clothes, and being bare foot. The reason why Godse killed Gandhi was because he felt that Gandhi was sacrificing Hindu interests in an effort to appease minority groups. Godse blamed Gandhi for the bloody Partition of India, in which hundreds of thousands of people died. Also, he wanted India to be more educated and have more technology. Using the Life Lesson I would use the life lesson in many ways. One way that I might use it is if I am debating for something. I would use the life lesson to stand up for what I think is right. Another way that I could use the lesson is when I think someone is doing something wrong to someone or something. I would use the lesson that I learned to believe in myself and also do what is right to help. A life lesson that I learned was to believe in what you think is right. Mathatma Gandhi used this life lesson when he thought that India should be a free country. When Gandhi did it he helped India get its independence. Also he thought that he should do something about the british ruling. By beliving in himself and not giving up hope, Gandhi helped India in many ways. Good Decision
