Some literary terms Symbol Setting Stereotype Story telling symbol (sim-bol): a symbol is a word or object that stands for another word or object. The object or word can be seen with the eye or not visible. setting (set-ting): the time, place, physical details, and circumstances in which a situation occurs. stereotype (ster·e·o·type): A widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing: "sexual and racial stereotypes". story (sto·ry): An account of imaginary or real people and events told for entertainment: "an adventure story". Urban Legends An urban legend, urban myth, urban tale, or contemporary legend, is a form of modern folklore consisting of stories that may or may not have been believed by their tellers to be true Boo Radley ?
