Smartboards in the Classroom
By Jarrett Harkey

Instructor: Lisa Sill
NETS-T and NETS for Teachers Standards that are addressed:
Mrs. Moffitt uses the smartboard to provide interactive lesson plans that encourage students with all learning styles to participate and engage.

Mrs. Moffitt accomplishes this by asking the students to participate in lesson plans that require the student to interact with the board.
Technology That Can Enhance the Smartboard
The iPad
The iPad can be connected through the use of a cable or through Wi-Fi. By downloading the SMART Bridgit Conferencing app from the Apple Store the options for the smartboard are almost limitless. Below is a video introducing this software.

The video I picked for this week:
Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
Mrs. Moffitt uses the training that she received from the school to enhance her lessons by tying language arts and social studies together through the use of her smartboard.

A specific example would be the relationship she introduces between the letter G and George Washington.
Model Digital Age Work and Learning
Using the iPad in conjunction with the smartboard the teacher can display lessons that are not interactive through the smartboard.
Comments, Questions and Concerns
This is a great tool for enhanced lesson plans!
Teachers and students interact with the smartboard and avoid boredom and dry spells throughout the lesson.
How lazy can a teacher be?
Mrs. Moffitt seems interactive and I think that she is using it as an additive for your curriculum.
What about teachers that are going to abuse this technology and turn to clicking a mouse and sitting at a desk?
Mrs. Moffitt uses the smartboard technology to address the different needs of each student. Some students learn visually while others learn through reading and writing. The use of the smartboard addresses both of these learning styles (JellyvisionLab, 2012).
Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility
