He was named after the Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen.

Roald spoke Norwegian when he was at home with his family.

He was a fighter pilot in the RAF in World War 2

Roald Dahl wrote books for children and for adults.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was written in 1964 and features the adventures of Charlie Bucket who finds a golden ticket in a bar of chocolate and visits the chocolate factory of the eccentric chocolatier, Willy Wonka, with his grandfather, Grandpa Joe.
