The Fault in Our Stars
Realistic Fiction
Setting & Characters
Setting: Indianapolis, Indiana

Characters: Hazel Grace Lancaster, Augustus Waters, Issac, Hazel's parents, Monica, & Peter Van Houten
Conflict
Hazel & Augustus both have cancer and could possibly die from it.
Rising Action
Hazel & Augustus start talking about their love of books. Augustus then gets in contact with the author of Hazel's favorite book. The author then invites them to his home in Amsterdam to learn more about the mysterious ending.
Climax
The climax is when Hazel & Augustus go to Amsterdam. Things with Peter Van Houten don't go well, they say that they love each other for the first time, and Augustus tells Hazel that his cancer has come back aggressively.
Falling Action
When they get back home from Amsterdam, Augustus' health starts to decline.
Character Archetypes
Hazel Grace & Augustus
Their character achetype would be Star-Crossed Lovers. We chose this because they love each other but they can't be together in the end.
Issac
Isac is Augustus' best friend. His character archetype would be The Outcast. We chose this because he is blind and alone when his girlfriend dumps him because he is blind.
Peter Van Houten
His character archetype would be The Evil Figure With An Ultimately Good Heart. We chose this because he wouldn't give them answers about the end of Hazel's favorite book but he gives Hazel and Augustus a new perpestive on their relationship and brings them closer.
Setting Archetypes
The Garden
We chose this for one setting archetype because The Garden usually represents young love/love in general and Hazel and Augustus. love each other.
The Small Town
We chose this for the second archetype because in the support group everyone knows everyone and judges each other based on what the person says or what someone says about another person.
Plot Archetype: The Fall
We chose this plot archetype because in the beginning Hazel and Augutus are happy together but then a tragedy happens.
Symbolic Archetypes
One symbolic archetype would be the color black which represents death because characters go to a funeral in the book. The second symbolic archetype would be the crossroads because when Hazel met the author he didn't turn out as expected, she got angry and yelled at him.
