David M. Overton
He has degrees in economics and history from Wayne State University in Detroit. He first tried at law school, but dropped out to play in a rock band. Then convinced his parents to move their family bakery to California. He then opened the first cheesecake factory in 1978.
The first restaurant was opened because David wanted to help out his parents. Then, he had never managed a restaurant. But he learned he had talents with food and people, so he decided to start his own business
How was it handled?
He handled obstacles calmly without get his panties in a wad. He always asked for help from people and somehow he always made it through it even though entrepreneurs said they would have quit if they were in his position.
He's not stopping even at 100 restaurants. He has big future plans such as creating additional brands, and running a multiconcept operation.
"In the future it's natural just like Darden, just like Brinker if you're going to grow, you're going to want more concepts to be able to open up restaurants where you want to and when you want to and not be forced to grow for growth's sake."
To keep going even if others say they couldn't do it if they were in his situation. If he listened to them, he never would have everything he has now and not have 100+ restaurants around the world
Never make excuses
One of the obstacles was the high calorie content and unnutritious food. It was the dubbed one of the worst restaurants in America. He had to shorter the portions drastically.
