Transcript of Cells vs Basketball Team



The cytoplasm holds all the organelles in it. It is the workplace for the organelles.
Endoplasmic Reticulum
The endoplasmic reticulum is the transportation system in the cell. There are two types of it as well, the smooth endoplasmic reticulum and the rough endoplasmic reticulum. The smooth endoplasmic reticulum creates lipids while the rough endoplasmic reticulum creates proteins.
The mitochondria of a cell is the "powerhouse". This is because it creates energy for the cell to use.

The nucleus is the control center of a cell. It controls all of the cell's activities.
The lysosome's job is similar to a clean-up crew. They get rid of old cell parts.
The function of risibosomes to produce proteins.
The Golgi's function in a cell is to package proteins and then send them where they are needed, whether it is inside the cell or outside.
Comparison to Basketball court
The basketball court is where all of the players, coaches, cheerleaders, and fans are. This is similar to the cytoplasm because it contains all of the parts to a basketball team.
Comparison to Cheerleaders and mascots
The cheerleaders and mascots of a team are the mitochondria. The similarity they have is that the cheerleaders and mascots hype up the fans to create energy for the team to go off. The mitochondria also provides the cell with energy.
Comparison to an owner
The nucleus is comparable to the owner of a team because he has control over the coaches, players, and everything else on the team.
The vacuole is the part of the cell that stores the water, food, and waste.
Vacuole's comparison
The locker rooms are similar to the vacuole in an animal cell because it stores the players items.
The twin to a Golgi is the scoreboard keeper. He or she puts the points on the board which is similar to what the Golgi does because the points act as proteins of a cell.
Basketball court to the cytoplasm
The cytoplasm is able to be compared to a basketball court since the basketball court holds all of the players, coaches, and fans. This means it is the workplace for all of these people, which is the same functions as the cytoplasm.
Players vs Ribosome
The players of a basketball team could be compared to a ribosome because the players make shots to get points. The points act as the protein and the players are creating "proteins" for the team by making shots.

Comparison to sweatmopper
The sweatmoppers in a basketball game is comparable to lysosomes because they both clean. The sweatmoppers clean the court and the lysosome cleans up the cell.
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum
The concession stand would be similar to the smooth endoplasmic reticulum. This is so because the smooth ER(endoplasmic reticulum) transports fats, and the concession stand has fatty foods in it. When people want food, the stand gives it away, essentially giving fat away.
Comparison to the rough endoplasmic reticulum

The team bus of a basketball team is similar to the endoplasmic reticulum of a cell. They both have the same function which is to transport materials throughout the cell country.

The flagella is what generates movement of the cell
While the flagella moves the cell, the cilia guides it where to go.
Flagella vs point guard
The falgella's comparison to a point guard is that the point guard moves the team by callling out plays, the cilia, because he controls it. The flagella also moves the cell
Comparing the cilia
The cilia is like the play on a basketball court. The play guides the players where to go and how it works. While the play guides the players, the cilia also guides the movement of a cell.
The trainer is much like the nucleolus of a cell. The trainer helps improve the player, ribosome. By improving the player, it has the function of creating the player to who he will be.
The microtubules work together with the microfilaments to provide a structure of the cell.
The microtubules could be compared to the opposers of the team because the opposers keep the other teams fired up to win along with the fans.

The microfilaments of a cell work with microtubules to create the structure of the cell.

The fans of a team could represent the microfilaments. The fans work with the opposers to create a team's motive to play their games.
The centriole helps with the division of cells.(mitosis)

The centriole can be compared to the team's record because the record creates new fans for the team. The record of the team will
decide if more
people will
pay attention
and become
a fan.
Cell membrane
The cell membrane controls what goes in and out of the cell.
The security at a basketball game is much like the cell membrane of a cell. The security checks the people who want to come in, but if they have something illegal, the security tells them they are not able to come in. On the other hand, if they do not have anything illegal, they will be allowed in through security.
The rough endoplasmic reticulum is comparable to the referees of the game because the referees modify the points (proteins). When a player shoots a buzzer-beater, but it was challengeble, the referee goes to the review booth to check if the player was able to get the shot off in time.
The nucleolus's function is to create ribosomes.
