God's Truth Has Been Restored
Transcript of God's Truth Has Been Restored
The gospel of Jesus Christ helps families develop stronger relationships.
What exactly is a Prophet?
The first Prophet God called was...
Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.
A prophet is a man who has been called by and speaks for God. As a messenger of God, a prophet receives priesthood authority, commandments, prophecies, and revelations from God. His responsibility is to make known God’s will and true character to mankind and to show the meaning of His dealings with them. A prophet denounces sin and foretells its consequences. He is a preacher of righteousness. On occasion, a prophet may be inspired to foretell the future for the benefit of mankind. His primary responsibility, however, is to bear witness of Christ.
The Gospel blesses families
God is our loving...
We are God's
God loves us and will help us make right choices
The family is the best place to teach, learn, and apply gospel principles
Because He is our
loving Heavenly Father...
Through Jesus Christ We can live with God again
John 3:16 -
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Acts 17:29 -
Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.
Because God loves us (His Children)
so much, He has given us a few things
to help us throughout our life.
Primarily, He has given us the Gospel
of Jesus Christ to bless each of us
personally, and to bless our families.
Families are ordained
Marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children. God's plan enables families who live the gospel and receive the necessary ordinances to be together forever with Him.
Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to observe the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live.
Now, just how and when has God revealed His gospel to His children?
(See Amos 3:7)
...and what is a dispensation?
Dispensations are periods of time when prophets have taught the gospel. Previous dispensations have ended in apostasy.
Through His chosen prophets
In every dispensation
An apostasy is a turning away from gospel truths, which includes rebellion against authority and rejection of prophets.
Throughout the Bible, we can see this pattern of rejection and eventual restoration each time God called another prophet.
After this pattern of rejection and restoration, rejection and restoration, God finally sent His Son, Jesus Christ to bring His children out of yet another apostasy.
Our Savior and Redeemer
(This Pattern can be seen throughout the Bible)
The Son of God restored and taught the gospel. He performed many miracles
He called Apostles and gave them priesthood authority to preach the gospel and perform saving ordinances such as baptism
John 15:16 -
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
Christ established His Church
Christ was crucified, and His Apostles were rejected and killed
Matthew 27:35 -
And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
Christ accomplished the Atonement
Alma 7:11 -
And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
Alma 7:12 -
And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.
Yet again, the pattern of rejection had occurred.
As previous prophets had foretold, because God's children had rejected His Only Begotten Son, killing Him and His apostles, this apostasy left the entire world in spiritual darkness; a "spiritual famine". Several truths and teachings became corrupted or were lost altogether. Many wandered "from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, [running] to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, [but did] not find it." (Amos 8:11-12)
Because this Apostasy was worldwide, it is often known as the Great Apostasy
However, because God loves His children, He would not leave them in darkness forever. Just as patterned in times past, God would restore His gospel through the calling of another prophet.
Men like Martin Luther, John Calvin, and others during the Reformation period noticed this darkness and helped pave the way for a restoration of all lost truths.
God's prophet chosen to restore His gospel was...
Understanding that there is "One Lord, one faith, and one baptism"; like many others, Joseph was confused as to which church was Christ's true and living Church.
For a period of two years Joseph went from church to church, searching for the truth, but like others in times past, could not find it. One night, while studying in his Bible, He came across a scripture which forever changed his life.
James 1:5 -
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Joseph determined to follow the counsel of James, to pray to God for the truth. As he did so, this was his experience...
Because of the Restoration through the Prophet Joseph Smith, we have a living prophet who directs God's Church today - "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."
President Thomas S. Monson
As was mentioned, God understood that some would have difficulty believing that another restoration had taken place. To help all know for themselves, He has provided convincing evidence that Joseph Smith was a prophet - the Book of Mormon - which contains the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
"We invite [you] to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder it in [your] heart the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost...
...[As you] gain this divine witness from the Holy Spirit [you] will also come to know by the same power that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, that Joseph Smith is his revelator and prophet in these last days, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's kingdom once again established on the earth, preparatory to the second coming of the Messiah.
