Webinar Overview Our Process: What does the research say about successful teacher development? "Teachers who participated in sustained curriculum-based professional development reported changes in practice that, in turn, were associated with significantly higher student achievement scores on state assessment." (Darling-Hammond, 1999) Tips for Success Feedback suggests teachers like something they can try right out of the box
Got their feet wet in activity which they then refined to their preferences
Make sure specific examples, new teachers have only content knowledge as their schema! Platforms used Easy and Practical Professional Development Webinars: "...the degree of professional development to which teachers are exposed is strongly linked to both inquiry-based teaching practice and investigative classroom culture." (Supovitz, Mayer and Kahle, 2000). "When school-wide programs (PD) were compared with teacher-specific programs (by content), the former had the least effect on students' learning" (Mary Kennedy, 1999) "When comparing programs focused on subject matter, or how students learn the subject, with programs which focus on pedagogy, the former had the greatest impact on student learning" (Mary Kennedy, 1999) Picked pedagogical focus
