New Age World Religion
Creation Story/Brief History
No real creation story.
Spiritual movement that became popular in the 1970's.
Why? Reaction to the failure of Christianity and Secular Humanism to provide spiritual and ethical guidance for the future.
Teachings are a combination of Eastern and Western spiritual an metaphysical traditions.
It is a holistic worldview that the mind, body and spirit are interrelated and that there is unity throughout the universe.
It is a worldview that involves science and spirituality.
The beliefs are a combination of some of the major world religions including Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity, Hinduism and Judaism to name a few.
It is a very peaceful, calm and loving religion that embraces humanity as one.
Places of Worship
There are no formal places of worship for New Age worshipers.
There are gathering places though all over the world.
Local ones in this area include places like the Centre for Spiritual Living in White Rock, Balance Point Inner Garden in Surrey and the Universal Brotherhood Spiritualist Church in New Westminster.
Name and Symbol
The name New Age means “The Age of Aquarius” and has many different symbols to represent this religion. One of popular ones is the Pentacle with 5 points representing the 5 elements that make up mankind.

Important Figures, Leaders and Followers
Leaders of the New Age provide New Age services, such as healers, channels, psychics, and astrologers.
There is a division between New Age providers who understand their work as alternative health care and those who look to their services as offering spiritual guidance.
The alternative health care persons serve as leaders within the New Age community, as authorities on specific alternative health treatments, but do not consider themselves clergy.
By contrast, many other New Age providers understand themselves as religious or spiritual teachers and guides.
Most of these clergy provide distinct New Age services, but do not serve cohesive congregations, as in many other religions.

Seven Chakras and Vortices of the World
These communities are often located in or near special energy places in the world called the Seven Chakras and Vortices of the World.
These are places are where the earth’s energy pathways intersect creating high energy fields.
1. Root chakra: Mt. Shasta, California, United States.
2. Sacral chakra: Lake Titicaca, on the border of Bolivia and Peru
3. Solar Plexus chakra: Uluru-Katatjuta, Australia
4. Heart chakra: Glastonbury and Shaftsbury, England
5. Throat chakra: Great Pyramid of Giza and Mt.Sinai,Egypt; Mt. of olives, Jerusalem.
6. Third Eye chakra: Kuh-e Malek Siah, Triple border of Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
7. Crown chakra: Mt. Kailas, Tibet.
New Age does not have any sacred writings.
However, it relies on various texts to guide people in their spiritual development.
One of the most famous of these books is “A Course in Miracles” (1975) by Helen Schueman.
The books states that human fear and misunderstanding create the evil of the physical world, but that self-developed understanding of the true nature of the self, and the cultivation of love, allows one to create a newer, better reality.
There are many other New Age books that help followers to self-actualization and self-improvement but “
A Course in Miracles”
is said to be the bible of the New Age movement.
Monism: Everything that exists is comes from a single source of divine energy.

Pantheism: All that exists is God; God is all that exists. This means that we are all divine and we are all Gods. God is not a separate entity but can be found within ourselves and throughout the universe.

Panentheism: God is all that exists. God is the entire universe, and goes beyond the universe as well.

Reincarnation: After death, we are reborn and live another life as a human. This cycle repeats itself many times. This belief is similar to the concept of transmigration of the soul in Hinduism.

Karma: The good and bad deeds that we do adds and subtracts from our record, or karma. At the end of our life, we are rewarded or punished according to our karma by being reincarnated into either a painful or good new life. This belief is linked to that of reincarnation and is also comes from Hinduism.

An Aura is an energy field given off by the body. It is invisible to most people, but it can be detected by some people as a shimmering, multi-colored field surrounding the body. Some people can see the auras and understand them can analyze a person’s state of mind, and their spiritual and physical health.

Personal Transformation: An intense mystical experience that leads to the acceptance and use of New Age beliefs and practices. Guided imagery, hypnosis, and meditation, are useful ways to bring about and add to this transformation. Believers hope to believe they can heal themselves and others, have psychic powers and a new understanding of the workings of the universe. Later, when enough people have these powers, a major spiritual, physical, psychological and cultural planet-wide transformation is expected.

Ecological Responsibility: Mother earth should be preserved and looked after properly and respected.

Universal Religion: All religions are different paths to that ultimate reality. There are hard paths and easy ones but no correct one. They will all lead to a new universal religion which has parts of all religions and will become accepted worldwide.

New World Order: This will be a utopia in which there is world government, and end to wars, disease, hunger, pollution, and poverty. Gender, racial, religious and other forms of discrimination will cease. People's allegiance to their nation will be replaced by a concern for the entire world and its people.

The Age of Aquarius is a reference to the zodiac. The earth passes into a new sign of the zodiac approximately every 2,000 years. Some believe that the earth entered the constellation Aquarius in the 20th Century, so that the present era is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius.

from Aries to Pisces the fish circa 1st century CE. This happened at a time when Christianity was becoming a religion, and many individuals changed from animal sacrifice in the Jewish temple to embracing the teachings of Christianity. The church's prime symbol at the time was the fish.
from Taurus to Aries the ram circa 2,000 BCE. This happened at a time when the Jews engaged in widespread ritual sacrifice of sheep and other animals in the Temple.
from Gemini to Taurus the bull circa 4,000 BCE. During that sign, worshiping of the golden calf was common in the Middle East.
Places of Worship

Three important figures and founders of the New Age Movement include Oberon Zell-Ravenheart, Shirley MacLeane and Dr. Deepak Chopra. They were not necessarily the original people of New Age thought but they brought New Age to light. (No pun intended)
Oberon Zell-Ravenheart has accomplished many things in his long and colorful career. Oberon is a transpersonal psychologist, metaphysician, naturalist, theologian, shaman, author, artist, sculptor, lecturer, teacher, and ordained Priest of the Earth-Mother, Gaia. He is considered to be a true Wizard.
Shirley has written two New Age books entitled, “Out on a Limb” and “Dancing in the Light”. “Out on a Limb” is about her unwillingness to convert to the new Age movement and “Dancing in the Light” tells about her experiences with yoga, crystal power, acupuncture and reincarnation.
Dr Deepak Chopra wrote the book, “The Third Jesus” which is about the consciousness of Jesus which was in touch with the source of all creation. If you can aspire to be at one with that consciousness, then you too can be in touch with the source of all creation.
Perhaps the most famous contemporary New Age figure is Oprah Winfrey. Oprah has been heavily involved in the New Age movement and some refer to her as the "High Priestess of the New Age" She states that she is a spiritual leader of the New Age

The new world prayer called the “Great Invocation” is really an affirmation and is a powerful tool in the recognition that man and God are one, that there is no separation.
By affirming that I am the creator of the universe I can come into consciousness (eventually) that I am God, the true reality.
The most appropriate and potent way to use the Prayer for the New Age is to say or think the words with the focussed will.
The Lord's Prayer and the Great Invocation are said like a blessing. It is believed that through will the concepts will be activated and the mantram will work.

The Great Invocation Prayer
From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let light stream forth into the minds of men,
Let Light descend on Earth.
From the point of Love within the Heart of God
Let love stream forth into the hearts of men,
May Christ return to Earth.
From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide the little wills of men -
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.
From the centre which we call the race of men
Let the plan of Love and Light work out
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.
Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.

There are many other prayers or mantrams as they can be called. Most focus on bringing peace to the mind, body and spirit. Here are a few other prayers and affirmations.
Crystals have healing and spiritual qualities and of course candles set a calming environment.
New Age music is peaceful and is intended to create inspiration, relaxation and positive feelings.
Aromatherapy items like burning nice smelling oils or incense also calm the
Meditation or prayers can be done alone or
with others.
Often crystals are present, candles, music and aromatherapy items.
The idea is to calm the mind, body and spirit so that the will is able to take in the thoughts that one is thinking and the words one is saying.
