What is robotics?
Where did the word robot come from ?
What is a robot?
The three laws ?
There are 3 laws , also known as Asimov’s Laws.
These rules were introduced in 1942.
A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
Why did we choose this topic?
Robotics is a technology that is used to design, build and operate robots or machines.
Robot is a machine that imitates a human . And is a man made machine who can move by themselves.
Robots characteristics are:
-Karel Capek was a well known writer for his science fictions in the early 20th century.
-R.U.R. ( Rossum’s Universal Robots) in January 1921.
-“Labori”, from the Latin word which means labor.
-Josef Capek for suggestion and Josef came up with “Roboti” which means “slave”.
# zeroth Law was added
Robot may not harm humanity, or through inaction, allow humanity to come to harm
When was the first robot invented?
He made the first industrial robot named Unimate.
The robot was built by Unimation, the world's first robot manufacturing company.
What elements are required to build this?
- Control Systems (the "brains")
a. Pre-Programmed Robots
b. Autonomous Robots:
-Top-Down: Build the brain first!
- Bottom-Up: Don't bother with a brain! Hook each sensor directly to an effector -- call this a "behavior
Ecology and Environment
What part does it play in society?
-Astronomy: explore new things on the planet, complete dangerous task in the space
-Economy: manage and organize money and business automatically,
-Health: cure the patient who has health problem, work with
Where is it used/abused?
-Used in bank(economy), space science(Astronomy)
-Abused THE REAL 2001: SCIENTISTS TEACH ROBOTS HOW TO TRICK HUMANS
What does the future hold for this subject?
-as normally as TVs and computers
-easier to communicate to then humans
-people do interact with robots in their life
What kind of jobs are available?
-Fanuc Robotics Programmer,
-Robotic automation designer
“If every tool, when ordered, or even of its own accord, could do the work that befits it... then there would be no need either of apprentices for the master workers or of slaves for the lords.”

Robot Or Not?
Greek philosopher Aristotle made this famous quote:
When was the first robot used and Why?
The first uses of modern robots were in factories as industrial robots.
First used in the 1960's
-robots can have pros and cons.
Pros and Cons
Pros: To be human's assisstance.
Cons: Make human lazy
-Don't know how to clean up, organize documents etc.
-Health problem, no exercise
