Theme Statement
The theme in
Interlopers
is that you should let the past be and only worry about the present and future. This is the theme because the two feuding men were only worrying about their history with each other, and not the present or future.
Character Types
Foreshadowing
There is foreshadowing at this part in
The Interlopers
, "'I can see figures coming through the wood. They are following in the way I came down the hillside'...'Are they your men?' asked Georg. 'Are they your men?' he repeated impatiently as Ulrich did not answer. 'No,' said Ulrich with a laugh, the idiotic chattering laugh of a man unstrung with hideous fear," (Saki, 4). This quote shows how the wolves followed Ulrich's scent down the slope and how scared Ulrich is. This foreshadows something bad, i.e. the wolves.
Flat Character
Ulrich von Gradwitz is a dynamic character beacuse he goes through many changes throughout the story. "...if there was a man in the world whom he detested and wished ill to it was Georg Znaeym," (Saki, 1). This shows how Ulrich hates Georg. "...Ulrich von Gradwitz, I will be your friend," (Saki, 3). This quote tells how Georg and Ulrich became friends.
Dramatic Irony

Georg Znaeym is a flat character because we don't learn much about him. The story mainly focuses on Ulrich, so we don't get to know him too well.
This is an example of dramatic irony because we know that Dwight started the fire, but the other people in the office do not.
Symbolism
There is symbolism in Interlopers when both men drink from Ulrich's wine flask. This shows how the men now trust each other and are now friends. Though Georg was a little hesitant at first, he soon accepted the wine. After this happens, they tell each other that if their men come first, the other will be freed first, to show friendship and hospitality.
Climax
The climax of
Interlopers
was when Ulrich and Georg decide to become friends. This is the climax because the whole story is building up the hatred between Georg and Ulrich and they become friends all of a sudden, completely changing the story.
Allusion
An allusion that I found is from Zootopia. In Zootopia the main characters come across a weasel selling bootleg DVDs that reference other Disney movies. This alludes to other Disney movies by making parodies of other Disney movies.
