THE EFFECTS OF DRUGS ON OUR KIDS Presented by:

Thefts from vehicles = 958 2011 Black Mountain Precinct Crime Statistics Main cause of crime
activity in the North Valley Heroin Common among young adults/high school-aged kids
Cheaper and more readily available
A potentially greater high; could include undesirable materials the body cannot break down. Signs/Symptoms Look for signs such as:
Problems at/missing school or drop in grades.
Physical health issues (Lack of energy)
Neglected appearance.
Changes in relationships with family/ friends.
Requests for money without a reasonable explanation.
Money/items stolen from safe places at home. High-grade marijuana In 2008, 25.8 million Americans age 12 and
older had abused marijuana at least once in
the year prior to being surveyed.

In one study, 20% of eight graders had tried marijuna Know your child's friends, friends' parents, acquaintances
Inquire about your child's whereabouts and how to contact them
Have open, frank discussions about the dangers of drug use

We are all in this together!!! What can a parent do? Would you search your
kids' rooms, car, cell
phones, or backpack? Notify someone when they recognize a problem
Do not ignore the problem
Early intervention We are all in this together Churches, faith-based organizations
Schools
Internet for information
