Transcript of Messi vs. Ronaldo

Messi and Ronaldo are two of the greatest soccer players in the world. They both have amazing skill and incredible talent.
At the end of the 2013 season, Messi had appeared in 536 games and scored 400 goals. His goal average per game is about 0.75.
Ronaldo has appeared and played in 647 games and scored 418 goals as of the end of the 2013 season. His goal average per game is about 0.65.
Essential Questions
1. What qualifies someone as a great soccer player?

2. How do Ronaldo and Messi compare to each other?
Messi is 5ft. 7in. tall. It is easier for him to get knocked off the ball. But Messi can change speed and direction faster. He has a lower center of gravity and above average balance which allows him to maneuver in and out of defenders.
Ronaldo is 6ft. 1in. Ronaldo doesn't get knocked off the ball as often because he is stronger. Though Ronaldo is stronger, he cannot change direction and speed as quick as Messi can.
Messi and Ronaldo have very different playing styles. There is one skill Ronaldo has that Messi does not. Messi would rather not head the ball. Where Ronaldo will head the ball, Messi will trap the ball on his chest and shoot with his foot. This can put Messi at a disadvantage compared to Ronaldo.
Putting power on your shots is also a key factor in soccer. Ronaldo’s shots tend to have more power and he can therefore shoot from outside of the box. Messi would much rather dribble around most of the defenders and even the goalkeeper, and then shoot on the ground. Though, when Messi takes a free kick, he can put a massive amount of power behind the shot.
Messi has won about 20 awards and titles. These include the Ballon d’Or from 2009 - 2013, La Liga (the league that Messi’s team is in) Championship trophy in the 2009 - 2010, 2010-2011, and the 2012-2013 season, the UEFA Championship League trophy in the 2010-2011 season, and the European Golden Shoe Award in 2010, 2012, and 2013.
Cristiano Ronaldo has won about six awards and titles. Some of these include the La Liga Championship trophy in the 2011-2012 season and the Ballon d’Or in 2014.
Messi has clearly won more awards and titles than Ronaldo, but recently Ronaldo has been winning more awards than Messi. Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or and the Copa Del Rey trophy this season. Everyone has noticed that Ronaldo stopped Messi’s four-year streak of wins in the race for the Ballon d’Or.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are definitely two of the most athletically talented players in the world. Messi has a better goal average, Ronaldo is stronger and is starting to win more awards, and they both have amazing ball skills. But which player is better?
The answer is a matter of opinion. You can base your opinion on different things, but there is no doubt that Ronaldo and Messi are two of the greatest. Even Ronaldo has once said, “it’s like comparing a Ferrari and a Porsche.”
