Transcript of User Login Failed

How to correct "User Profile Service failed the login" error when logging into Windows
Start Computer up in safe mode.

Backup all data files on to an external drive.

Backup Registry and store the file on the dektop

Locate SID key
Making Changes
There two ways of correcting the error depending what the files say. Both are included.
Fix RefCount
Double click the folder without .bak in the details pane double click RefCount, type 0, click ok
Accessing the Registry
To access the registry
Click Start, type "regedit" into the search box and hit enter.
Inside Registry Editor
Locate and click the registry subkey,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Micrsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
If you have two folders starting with S-1-5 followed by a long set of numbers and one ends with
.bak
you need to rename the
.bak
folder.
Right click the folder named
.bak
and click rename. Remove .
bak
at the end of the folder and press enter.
If you have only one folder named .bak
Right click on the folder, click rename, remove
.bak
at the end of the folder and press enter.
Click each S-1-5 folder ,locate the ProfileImagePath entry in the details pane, double click to make sure this is the user account profile with the error.


Right click the folder named
.ba
then click rename, change the .ba
to .bak, press enter
Right click the folder without
.bak
and click
rename
, click at the end of the file name, then type
.ba
and press enter.
Click the folder without .bak, in detail pane double click State, type 0 click ok
