Strategies Freedom summer freedom summer, which is also known as the mississpippi summer project,was a campaign that iniciated in june 1964. the purpose for this campaign was to register as many african american v0ters as possible in the state of mississippi. march on washington on august 28 of 1963, more than 2000 buses, 21 special trains, 10 chartered airliners, and uncounted cars converged on washington. the march started at the washington monument and ended at the lincoln memorial. there were speakers such as josephine baker and martin luther king jr. montgomery bus boycott people rosa parks martin luther king jr. malcolm x lyndon johnson martin luther king jr was born
on january 15, 1929 in atlanta
georgia. mlk gave speeches
protesting intergration as an
adult. later on he was
assassinated on april 4, 1968
in memphis tennessee. lyndon johnson was the 36th
president of the united states.
at first he was the vice president,
then became president when president
john f. kennedy was assassinated.
malcolm x was born on may 29, 1925
in omaha, nebraska. malcolm x was a
muslim and did not agree with mlk's
method on how to fight segregation.
he did not believein non-violence.
this man was killed on february 21,
1965 in newyork, newyork.
rosa parks was born on february 4,1913 in
tuskegee, alabama. she was arrested once
by not giving her seat to a white man. after
this the montgomery bus boycott started. she
died on october 24, 2005 in detroit, michigan. the montgomery bus boycott started by rosa parks not giving her seat to a white man on a public bus; she was arrested. all of this happned on December 1, 1955. organizations black panthers naacp sclc kkk the black panther party was an african
american organization that did not agree
with non-violence. they promoted self-defense
againts white people that were discrimated
and persecuted. this organization was founded in 1966. the southern christian leadership conference
played a big role in the american civil rights
movement. Its first president was Dr. martin
luther king jr. its formation was on January
10, 1957. the national association for the
advancement of colored people
was formed on february 12, 1909.
its purpose was to end segregation
and racial hatred. this organization
is one of the oldest of all. the ku klux klan was an organization that protected the rights of white americans of protestants faith by using violence and intimidation againts colored people. they had a lot of ''lynches'' toward these people. events birmingham campaign civil rights act of 1964 little rock nine voting rights act of 1965 the birmingham capmaign was organized by the sclc. the purpose was to bring attention to the
unequal rights of black americans. the civil rights act of 1964 is an act to end segregation in public schools. this act invalidated the jim crow laws and all discrimination the voting rights of 1965 outlawed the discrimination of voting.
this act allowed african-americans to vote. the little rock nine was a group of african-american students that were enrolled in little rock central high school. all of this happened in 1957.
