While Quentin is frightened by the body, it fascinates Margo.
Nine years pass. The two are seniors in high school. The popular Margo has seemingly forgotten about Quentin, while he is still shyly in love with her. One night, she sneaks into his room and asks him if he wants to go on adventure.
The two spend the night pulling pranks on her friends and boyfriend.
The final step in Margo's plan is for them to sneak into Sea World together. They bond and dance on the grass until morning.
The very next day, Margo goes missing and Quentin notices that she has left a set of clues specifically for him.
Quentin takes his friends Ben and Radar with him to decipher the clues for the last month of their senior year. Quentin becomes obsessed with finding her, missing prom and graduation.
Eventually, they discover that she is hiding in a fake town (or paper town) called Agloe, New York.
Quentin, Ben, Radar, and Ben's girlfriend, Lacey, drive twenty one hours to Agloe to find Margo
Quentin realizes that they are not meant to be, so they say their goodbyes.
