Do Earthquakes Happen On Other Planets
Transcript of Do Earthquakes Happen On Other Planets
What is a Earthquake
An earthquake is what happen when two plates of the earth suddenly slip past one another. The Surface Where they slip is called the fault or fault plane. The location below the earth’s surface where the earthquake starts is called the hypocenter, and the location directly above it on the surface of the earth is called the epicenter.
Are Earthquakes possible on other planets
Earthquakes happen on other planets, but they are not called earthquakes. It is the name of the planet and then quake, like Marsquakes. Mars recently had Marsquakes of magnitude 7. This also means that mars has a molten core, which means there is a possibility for life on mars.
The moon even has Moonquakes seismometers that were planted on the moon during the Apollo 12 ,14 ,15 ,and 16 measured Moonquakes that reached 5.5 on the Richter scale. Observations show that Venusquakes also happen, even though the standard plate tectonics as we know don't appear to be in process.
Seismic activity occurs on other planets, which says that they may have molten core like earth, but most of the other planets that have seismic activity don't have plates tectonics like earth does. Venus, and Mars like the earth have volcano. Venus's volcano are much larger 10x bigger than earth volcano.
