Transcript of Microteaching- Cells

Cells- 5th Grade
Rudolf Virchow- "Father of Pathology"
All living things are made up of 1 or more cells.
Cells are the basic unit of life.
All cells come from pre-existing, living cells.
Animal vs. Plant
Real Animal Cells
Real Plant Cell

Now you will make your own models of plant and animal cells!

cytoplasm
Golgi apparatus
ribosomes
vacuole
one large
central vacuole
few smaller vacuoles
cell membrane
chloroplast
cell wall
boxy shape
green
irregular
shape
Where proteins are produced and stored.
Can be found within the cytoplasm and lining the Rough ER.
Ribosomes
Contain enzymes for digestion.
Lysosomes
Transports material throughout the cell.
Synthesizes fats
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (Smooth ER)
Powerhouse of the cell.
Provides energy for the cell.
Mitochondria
Control center (brain) of the cell.
Contains genetic material.
Nucleus
Contains genetic material within the nucleus
Nucleolus
Transports material throughout the cell.
Synthesizes proteins
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (Rough ER)
The liquid gel-like substance throughout the cell.
Cytoplasm
Helps package proteins and fats made by the ER
Golgi apparatus
Store food and water for the cell.
Vacuoles
Contain chlorophyll in plant cells which gives the cell it's green color.
Chloroplast
Stiff outer covering that provides strength and protection for plant cells.
Cell Wall
Holds the cell together and regulates what gets in & out of the cell.
Separates the cell from others.
Cell Membrane
no cell wall
