-what you say
Why do people have low confidence?
Are you guys ready for......
Difference between Groups and teams
"All teams are groups,
but not all groups are teams"
Why is it important?
“Working alone is a great way to work on particular skills and working together on a team is a great way to learn from others.”
Skills you need to work in teams
Work efficiently and effectively (better results)
sense of belonging, respect, trust and achievement.
Share, exchange and better use of resources (skills, materials, human effort, energy, time, workload, etc)
Diversity (better ideas & combine other people's ideas, skills, etc)
Support and learn from other team members
Less isolation and intimidation
New approaches to solve problems
Gain new skills (communication & interpersonal skills)
A collection of individuals having:
common or shared objectives
is a set of people who are working together for a common purpose or goal (working together to accomplish an assigned or general task) A
can be defined by people who are together but
working together to complete a task. A group of people could be doing the same thing together, such as watching a movie or a sports event, but they are observers not the doers.
is informal and meets to solve short-term problems. A
solves long- term problems and includes more coordination and structure.
X agree with group norms
Resistance to change
Conflict of interest
Time consuming (X get things done)
"Free-riding" might occur
Prefer working by themselves rather in teams
Communication skills (Listen and speak properly)
Support & cooperate
Learn from mistakes
Problem solving strategies
A team is a
of people involved in the same activity, usually toward a common goal, a common vision and have have some level of interdependence.
Seen in sports and in the workplace.
Come into existence through shared attitudes.
Sometimes things cannot be done by yourself, you need the help of others to finish the task.
Believing in one's ability to be successful & accepting oneself & recognizing that you are THE BEST!
Write something that you like about yourself that makes you feel unique and special:
-Body (Beautiful eyes)
-Skill/Ability (Good at math)
Write something that you don't like about yourself and/or would like to improve:
TOO MUCH CONFIDENCE IS X GOOD! (OVERCONFIDENT)
Lose focus and get lazy
TOO LITTLE CONFIDENCE IS X GOOD EITHER!!! (UNDERCONFIDENT)
Confidence is important because....
Face any situation knowing we can handle it (reach for our goals, try new things, stand independently)
Protects us from stress and equips us to face life's challenges.
Without it: situation can be seen as a threat, finishing any type of jobs/task can be complex.
You question your ability and stress constantly. (Instead of facing the task, you retreat, avoid, or procrastinate. If you confront the task, but without confidence you over-think it, over-do-it, or tremble through the process)
If you deliver it with confidence it inspires your team as intended.
People don't listen to those who are unsure of themselves.
Confidence to make decisions. "well, maybe but I'm not really sure."
It is determined by the perception of:
1. Self Image =
"How do you SEE yourself?"
2. Self-Esteem =
"How do you THINK & FEEL about yourself?"
3. Self-Efficacy =
Do you have the ability and confidence to accomplish A SPECIFIC TASK? "I CAN DO IT!"
4. Self-Expectations =
when you think something is going to happen and it happens.
-Need to conform to social status (Look, behave, say certain way)
Success means earning $X otherwise you're a failure
Score A grades or else it means youre stupid
Smoke cigarettes or else youre not one of us
This makes it very easy for us to be a failure and lose confidence if we dont conform to these rules.
Strategies to improve self-confidence
Recall successful past performance
TREAT YOURSELF AS A FRIEND
ACT confidently (Thoughts follow actions)
THINK confidently (Actions follow thoughts)
Every person on the face of the Earth is UNIQUE in their own special way
(X need to COMPARE yourself with others)
All of us have our OWN GIFTS and TALENTS
NO ONE is SUPERIOR to another. We are just BETTER in DIFFERENT ways.
All of us are CREATED EQUAL.
Everyone have the POTENTIAL for greatness
If others can do it, SO CAN I!
IT CAN LEAD TO.......
Alcohol and drug abuse
