Finding your textbooks in Smith Library’s circulating collection

other students can recall the book.

instructor may recall the book and put it “on reserve” so it can be shared by the class.

if you fail to return a book needed for course reserve reading, a new copy of the book may be rush ordered and you may be charged the replacement cost.

Getting Course Textbooks at the Library

Course reserve textbooks

usually circulate for 2 hour loans within the Library

you’ll need to spend lots of time in the library

overdue fines & replacement can exceed the price of a new textbook, so you do want to follow the loan rules.

Getting Course Textbooks at the Library

There are three ways that you might get access to course textbooks through Smith Library. But each way has some conditions you need to understand.

Getting Course Textbooks via the Library

Sometimes students look to the library as a free source for required textbooks. The problem is that library resources are designed for sharing. That doesn’t always work out very well if a lot of students need to share the same book.

Please note that Smith Library does not purchase all or even most course text books!!
