7 SACRAMENTS OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
SACRAMENTS & GRACE
Sacraments confer the grace they signify.

"Celebrated worthily in faith, the sacraments confer the grace that they signify. They are
efficacious
because in them Christ Himself is at work: it is He who baptizes, He who acts in his sacraments in order to communicate the grace that each sacrament signifies. The Father always hears the prayer of his Son’s Church which, in the epiclesis of each sacrament, expresses her faith in the power of the Spirit. As fire transforms into itself everything it touches, so the Holy Spirit transforms into the divine life whatever is subjected to His power." -CCC 1127

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
Sacraments are MYSTERIES
Sacraments have layers ... we can understand them more deeply & differently over time & experiences, especially as we grow deeper in our relationship with God
> Jesus saved us through the Paschal Mystery, and He communicates & dispenses that work of salvation through the Sacraments

> Jesus Himself is the living, ever-present sacrament of God, because He communicates this grace to us

> By His power He is present in the sacraments, so that when anybody baptizes, it is really
CHRIST HIMSELF
who baptizes!

>Church's first purpose is to be the sacrament of the inner union of men with God, and the unity of the human race

>The Church is Christ's instrument ... the universal sacrament of salvation by which Christ manifests & actualizes the mystery of God's love for men

visible plan
of God's love for humanity
