Transcript of ALL-STAR AUTHOR

Richard Russell Riordan was born on June 15, 1964 in San Antonio, Texas. When he was a kid he love reading books, his first book he remembers reading is "The Lord of the Rings." He grew up very interested in Greek and Norse mythology. For high-school he went to Alamo Heights High. He was the schools newspaper editor. He also started an underground news-paper that made fun of the school. ( Especially the losing football team.) Later the football team egged his car.
Early Life
After high school he went to NTS to be a guitar player but transferred to UTA and graduated with a double-major. After college he got married and had 2 kids, Patrick and Haley. How it Started
When his son Haley was young he had ADHD and Dyslexia which made it hard to concentrate and read. So every night Rick told him Ancient Greek myths. When he ran out of myths, Haley told him to make something up. It took him 3 nights to tell him the story about "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Theif." Like Haley, Percy Jackson had ADHD and Dyslexia which made it easier for Haley to relate to it. Haley told Rick to publish the story, so Rick wrote 3 copies and told 3 of his students to read it and rate it. All of his students gave it an A+. After that he publishd it and it was a New York Times best-seller!
