Solar Energy
The sun is a star who's energy source is from it's core and travels to the surface of the Sun and is then released as light. That energy arrives on Earth and solar panels collect the light energy amd convert it into electricity.
Where is this energy found?
Timeline
How solar energy
is produced?
Sun light reaching earth's surface.
Sun's light reaching solar panels
In general, areas closer to the equator have far greater potential for producing solar electricity than those closer to the poles, and areas with consistent sun have greater solar potential then areas that are frequently overcast because light is needed for power.
Auguste Mouchout invented a device that turned solar power into steam. This soon became the first steam engine powered completely by the sun.
1861
1883
American inventor Charles Fritz turned the sun's rays into electricity with the first solar cell.
Frenchman Charles Tellier installed a solar energy system to heat water for his home.
1885
1990
U.S. investments in the solar electric cell were successful.
Pacific Gas and Electric installs the first photovoltaic grid system in Kerman, California.
1993
Map showing the leading countries using solar energy.
The Pros and Cons
Do you recomend the use of solar energy?
After researching solar energy, we do recommend the use of this energy. It is a clean, free, and renewable energy source and it is good for the enviornment. Solar panels take advantage of energy that would otherwise go to waste and the production of energy using solar panels creates zero pollution. Also, the systems are very low maintenance and it is possible to generate solar electricity in remote locations. This is why we believe solar energy is a good source of power and should be used often.
The End
Pros
Cons
-Sunlight is free and completely renewable.
-Solar panels take advantage of energy that would have otherwise gone to waste.
-The production of energy using solar panels creates zero pollution
-Panels can be unattractive to the eye.
-Solar energy can only generate electricity during the day.
-A large area is needed to recieve a good level of efficiency.
