Transcript of Alan Anguiano Computer Components

CPU (Central Processing Unit)
This is the brain of the computer. It oversees everything the computer does.
Computer Components
Heat Sink
Heat sinks are used to cool the CPU and other computer components (such as video and graphic cards) that generate heat.
RAM (Random Access Memory)
This is the short term memory into which essential and in-progress files are loaded. RAM is erased when the computer shuts down.
Hard Drive Storage
Long term storage device for a computer used to store programs and documents. Capacity is measured in GB.
Ports and Slots
Ports refer to the sockets or plugs on the computer chassis. Slots are similar, but they are usually designed for sliding a single component or card directly into the computer.
Power Supply Unit (PSU)
Provides the power from an electrical outlet and converts it from AC to DC, which is what a computer needs to function
Battery
The RTC is a watch that runs all the time, whether or not the computer is turned on. When you
turn on the computer, it will check the RTC to get the correct time and date.
Chassis
The chassis is the hard outer case that protects the computer’s internal components and provides the means to connect cables and components to the motherboard.
Optical/Disk Drives
An optical disk is a flat, circular, usually polycarbonate disk on which data is stored in the form of pits (or bumps) within a flat surface.
Graphic Support
A graphics card translates image data from a computer into a format that can be displayed on the monitor or other display output.
Keyboard/Mouse
The primary devices for entering information into a computer (keyboard) and navigating and interacting with the computer (mouse).
Visual Display
A visual display or a computer display is a device that can display signals generated by a computer as images on a screen.
