Transcript of New England Colonies
The Middle colonies include New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
Unlike the New England colonies that were settled for religious freedom, the Middle colonies were settled to set up family farms and businesses. They farmed wheat, barley and other grains to trade and gain profit from.
They settled in large cities and had big businesses to collect profit from trade with.
The Southern colonies include Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia.
The southern colonies were settled to be able to set up large agricultural trading companies.
They had large plantations where they had big farms. They grew tobacco, cotton and rice.
The Southern colonies consisted of small towns that were beneficial to plantation trade.
Triangular trade is the system of trade from Europe, Africa and the New World. It is called triangular trade because the the trade routes formed a triangle. Africa shipped slaves to the New World, the New World used the slaves to farm. Then those crops were shipped back to Europe, which used them. Then Europe shipped goods to Africa and the New World, thus continuing the trade cycle.
In the early days of the American colonies, it was evident that a government must be established. After revolting against their monarchs, the colonies united and formed the constitution. They were now a democracy. It took many years to perfect the system and work out the major kinks and flaw, and although it still isn't perfect, it is still the system we use today. Our democratic system and our constitution is the longest held government in human history.
