Journey
A Tale of Two Cities
“The cloud of caring for nothing, which overshadowed him with such a fatal darkness, was very rarely pierced by the light within him.”
― Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities, pg 160

The Worst Hard Times
Conclusion
The Grapes of Wrath
“Up ahead they's a thousan' lives we might live, but when it comes it'll on'y be one.”

John Steinbeck, The Grapes of Wrath, pg. 157
"Red"
"tomorrow is
another day!"
The Palace Thief
Sometimes as we travel through life, we find ourselves back at the beginning.
At the starting line, the end is impossible to see; so hold on tight, because the ride is crazy but at times, exhilarating, and you only get to do it once!
Life
brings you highs and lows.
Love
can raise you up, but there is always the
risk
that it will let you fall crashing down.
"Faster than the wind
Passionate as sin,
ended so suddenly"
- Taylor Swift
Life is full of choices. Sometimes we are given a question we don't know the answer to; but when we are asked for the second time we are better prepared to make our choice.
"Man's character is his fate, says Heraclitus, and at that moment, as he brushed his hand down over his temple, I realized the flesh-colored device in his ear was not a hearing aid but a transmitter through which he was receiving the answers to my questions."
"Sedgewick Bell cast his eyes downward , and it was at that moment that I realized he was cheating.
"I wish I knew where I will be a year from now."

pg 246
When everything is dark, just remember: when the sun sets, you can't even see your hand in front of you face, but it rises again every morning.
Even though we can't see the future, we can prepare ourselves for what may come.
Gone With the Wind
Never lose hope.
pg 193
pg 168
The one who follows the crowd will usually get no further than the crowd. The one who walks alone, is likely to find himself in places no one has ever been.
-Albert Einstein

Physics says what goes up, must come down. However that doesn't mean we should spend our lives waiting for the other shoe to drop. "When the dog bites, when the bee's sting, when your feeling sad", just remember "raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens". When you are "stuck with a day that's gray" tomorrow is "just a day away". Enjoy the good days with strawberry salad. Then, when a day comes when your salad bowl is empty, let the memories of the good times fuel you to get back there; do not let them drag you down in self-pity.
Prepare for the future, but know that changes are a part of life. This year I have really tried to improve upon the skill of planning but also accepting what I didn't foresee. The Joads in
The Grapes of Wrath
were thrown for a loop when California didn't accept them; but when I struggled with a class or classmate I took a deep breath and a step back to see where my road was taking me.
