# Integers - addition/subtraction

No description

#### Transcript of Integers - addition/subtraction

Adding & Subtracting Integers The Addition Rule When signs are the same, add and keep the sign

(-2) + (-4) = -6

2 + 4 = 6 The Addition Rule BUT If the signs are not the same, find the difference and use the sign of the greatest integer.

(-2) +4 = 2

2 + (-4) = -2 The Subtraction Rule Subtraction is "addition of the opposite." Another way to think about it is, Keep - Change - Change.

Keep the first the same

Change the sign to addition

Change the last integer to it's opposite

-3 - 7 =

-3 + (-7) = -10

remember the addition rule - signs are the same, add and keep the sign. Remember Addition - when signs are the same --> add the numbers keep the sign.

Addition - when signs are NOT the same --> find the difference and keep the sign of the largest integer.

Subtraction - is addition of the opposite or Keep - Change - Change, then follow the rules for addition. Your Turn 3 + (+4) =
