The Boreal Forest extends from across North America to Eurasia. It covers up to 12 million square km.
Overexploitation of the Boreal Forest

What is the Boreal Forest?
The Boreal Forest, also know as the Taiga, is the largest terrestrial biome on earth. It has long, cold winters and short, temperate summers. It is made up of mostly coniferous trees, and animals such as caribous, grey owls, grizzly bears, and even siberian tigers inhabite it
Clearcutting is a major threat to the Boreal Forest. It is defined as removing all trees, regardless of size, in an area at one time. This is an easy way for companies to cut down a lot of trees quickly and effectively. Clearcutting destroys animals habitats, alters the water cycle by runoff which removes valuable topsoil, and damages the atmosphere quality.

Ways in assisting the Boreal Forest
There are many ways that us, as humans, can assist and use stewardship to return the Boreal Forest to it's natural state. Simple ways in which you might not even realize are helping. The most obvious ways would be planting more trees and using less paper products. Using less paper products now means that over time there will be a lower demand for them.
Another way, which may not be as direct, is to eat less meat. With people eating less meat, not as much livestock is needed, which means less land is needed to grow livestock. Less land needed means reduced clearcutting.
How do we collect data to better understand the threats to the Boreal Forest?
We collect data for many different reasons, including understanding threats to ecosystems. Some of the ways we collect data are by studying the ecosystem and the way things work over time, and pay attention to the changes that occur. We can also do things like experiment how different things impact the forest (positively and negatively).
Who studies the information?
Scientists also are the ones who study the data that is provided to get a better understanding of the things that occur in our ecosystems.
Creating reserves is another way to help. These would be areas in which trees are not allowed to be cut down.

Conclusion
In conclusion, protecting the Boreal Forest is an important job. Humans need to remember that everything we do impacts the environment on a greater scale. Scientists are discovering new things about ecosystems and how they function everyday, and it is our job to use stewarship to take care of them. While clearcutting does provide jobs for people, especially in northern Ontario, it has extremely negative effects on the environment. We can help to preserve the Boreal Forest by using less paper products, eating less meat, and creating reserves where you can't cut down trees. This is how overexploitation harms the Boreal Forest, and what we can do to stop it.
