Transcript of VELS & Science

Science Thank you for your attention! The Domain The science domain is structured into six sections for each of the six levels of achievement. Standard Standards define what students should know and be able to do at different Levels. In science, standards for student achievements apply from Level 3. Safety Students are taught the importance of safe practices in the laboratory from an early stage in their learning . As they progress through higher levels, they develop skills in using a range of apparatus and disposal of chemicals and/or specimens. Learning Focus Learning focus statements are written for each level as a guide to the learning and teaching expectations required from both teachers and students. These statements also highlight the types of activities and experiences that are appropriate for each level. Science Knowledge & Understanding Dimensions Building student understanding and appreciation of fundamental scientific concepts and ideas Science At Work Hands on training through testing, analysing and researching scientific concepts. Students gain insight and a better understanding of science and its application to real life and other domains. Science progression points are used as a means to describe students' work and progress towards achieving a higher level in both science dimensions.

For example, to progress to Level 4, a student must first complete the Level 3 progression points 3.25, 3.50 and 3.75 for each of Science, knowledge & understanding AND Science at work Progression Points
