In the Gettersburg Adress, Abraham Lincoln speaks to the nation, and honors the many brave soldiers who gave their lives to serve America. Also, Lincoln speaks on an extremely
contraversial topic, equality. Reminding the people of America the purpose of The Civil War, which was equality for all American people, he claims America's new freedom will benefit the country greatly.

Lincoln made these pathos remarks in order to respect all people equally and affirm that America sacrifices and fights like no other country.

Three Interesting Examples of Diction and Syntax In The Gettysburg Address
Lincoln uses a syntax of repetition, by using the word, "that". He makes a short statement and then puts two dashes and starts a new statement using "that" four times. Generally writers use dashes to make an important statement stand out, which is exactly why Lincoln and his writers used them in the speech. Lincoln wanted listeners to realize the extreme devotion the soldiers showed while fighting, and the new freedom America possessed.
Dedicated and long endure are dictions that voice Lincoln's admiration for those who bravely fought for their beliefs. By being respectful and grateful he captured the listeners attention, and reminded them to be grateful has well. He wanted them to realize what many soldiers were fighting for, and what benefits the war brought, equality for all people.
Interestingly Lincoln organizes many of his thoughts into long sentences, which is a type of syntax. In a specific sentence Lincoln combined two statements using an ing clause, added another statement using or, and then added another statement using and. Lincoln used long sentences because he had a lot to say, and sometimes short sentences can be choppy and confusing. I feel the smooth flow of this speech, is one of the factors that made it the world known document we know today.
Abraham Lincoln incorporated ethos, by speaking with formal diction. He also spoke with authority and made the speech personable, which contributed to the ethos appeal.
Lincoln uses parallelism by saying, "We dedicate a portion of this field," and "But in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate- we cannot consecrate- we cannot hallow this ground." These quotes are exceptional examples of parallelism. He was honoring the many fallen soldiers, and used Logos to advocate the audacious courage of the many who fought.
